Freedom is a wonderful American privilege, isn’t it? It allows us to choose what we say, what we do, who we vote for, who we marry.
Freedom is awesome. And as wonderful as freedom in America is, our freedom in Christ is even better!
Jesus gave His life to free us from every kind of sin, to cleanse us, and to make us His very own people.... Titus chapter 2 verse 14
Jesus died not only to get us to heaven; He died to free us from sin, to break the strangle-hold of sin in our lives.
When we died with Christ we were set free from the power of sin. Romans chapter 6 verse 7
Set free from the power of sin. Wow! Salvation breaks the power of sin in our lives. It frees us from being powerless against sin. Isn’t that great?
Why then, do so many of us continue to struggle with addictions or on-going destructive behaviors or secret sins, etc? Why do the lives / marriages / families of so many Christ-followers look eerily like those of non Christ-followers?
If we as Christ-followers are supposed to be living in the freedom of Christ, then shouldn’t our lives & marriages & families look dramatically different from those who are not Christ-followers? So why is it, that so often, this is not the case?
Could it be because as Christ-followers, we know too much?
If you look carefully into the perfect law that sets you free, and if you do what it says and don't forget what you heard, then God will bless you for doing it. James chapter 1 verse 25
Notice that the blessing is in DOING, NOT KNOWING! This is huge, so don’t miss this.
• As a husband, God blesses me for actually sitting & listening to my wife after a hard day’s work. He doesn’t bless me for simply knowing that I’m supposed to do this.
• As a dad, God blesses me for actually playing hide-&-seek with my kids. He doesn’t bless me for simply knowing that I’m supposed to do this.
• As an employee, God blesses me for working hard & finishing my work. He doesn’t bless me for simply knowing that I’m supposed to do this.
• As a man, God blesses me for being in an accountability relationship so as to live a sexually pure life. He doesn’t bless me for simply knowing that I’m supposed to do this.
The secret to freedom in Christ is in the doing, not the knowing.
Want to experience freedom from the power of sin in your life? Then simply DO what you already know God wants you to do...and watch God bless you in ways you never imagined.
Sound too simple? Then I dare you to try this. You’ll be amazed at what God will do in you through this.
Then let me know what God does in your life.
