My family and I visited a friends church this past Sunday. The scripture passage was Colossians 3-Spiritual Growth. In regard to the lack of spiritual growth and the condition of mankind, the pastor said,
Many people choose to make Jesus their Savior yet do not yield to make Jesus their Lord. You can’t have one without the other. You can’t dethrone the King and live a productive Christian life.
The cool thing for me was that this was just part of God’s message for me. Prior to leaving for church, I was watching Dr. Jeremiah. In his teaching of the story of the prodigal son, Dr. Jeremiah referred to the older son as being just as lost as the younger who flew the coop, blew his lot and crawled back home. The elder son, who received his full inheritance at the same time the younger did, was more lost having stayed home because he didn’t even realize he was lost!
This problem has plagued my mind and burdened my heart for the past four years. The notion of artificial conversion. People who think they are Christians yet are not. People who grew up going through the motions of church and Christianity-yet they have never made Him their Lord. They’ve never surrendered their lives to Him. They are lost yet they don’t know they are lost. So tragic! God is continually bringing this problem to the forefront of my mind. I know He is calling me to take action-I’m just not sure how, yet. But, in due time, I know God will reveal it to me.
Now that I’ve shared my burden with you I want to ask that you pray for me. Pray that I will know what, where, how when God wants me to take action.
Secondly, I want to ask you to consider where you are with Christ? Do you see evidence of the Holy Spirit in your life and life choices? Is He your Savior and your Lord? If you aren’t sure you’ve ever really yielded your life to Him, do it now!
Children's Workers and Parents, check with your children. Make sure they understand what it means to have a relationship with Christ. Don’t assume that because they are in church they are christians. Just because you see them go through the motions don't assume they are children of God.
If you don’t know how to accept Jesus as your Savior or as a children's worker or parent you not sure how to talk to a child about salvation, send me a message and I will be glad to provide you with free information on how you can be sure of your salvation and how you can talk to your children about salvation.
