273,578 Free NET Bible Downloads and Counting

Tweet Share Earlier today I happened to check one of the administrative pages for the NET Bible website and added up the downloads for all the various free versions of the NET Bible available from the bible.org website: the HTML version, the Word doc version, e-Sword version, etc. I was surprised and pleased to note that in just under two years 273,578 free copies of the NET Bible in various forms have been downloaded. (The counters were reset around two years ago, so there were many free downloads before that which are not part of this total.) We're not talking about page views online, or use of the NeXtBible Learning Environment, just downloads of the NET Bible in some form or other. This is really encouraging because one of the original reasons the NET Bible was begun back in November of 1995 was to provide a modern English Bible translation on the Internet for free -- in its entirety. Not just a few verses that could be downloaded here or there, but an entire Bible, complete, for free. This was a first for a modern English translation! We at bible.org really do believe the Word of God should be given away free online, for everyone, everywhere, forever. Here's the direct link to the download page.
