It occurred to me the other day how often Christians say we're "trusting God for" this or that. As in, "I'm trusting God for provision" or "I'm trusting God for a husband" or "I'm trusting God for a new Audi TT convertible."

Shame, Grace and Perfectionism (or, "How to Cure Hyperventilation for Fun and Profit")
I have a great phone. No, it's not an iPhone, but it's still has pretty much all the features I need. For instance, it has a calendar that reminds me that it's my second-cousin-once-removed's birthday next Wednesday, or when I have a doctor's appointment, or when my second-cousin-once-removed has a doctor's appointment. It's a great option on a great phone, and I depend on it...well, greatly. If my phone doesn't tell me about an event, it doesn't exist in my life. I put paydays and parties and Tapestry blog days in it, and everything works perfectly.

Old Dog, New Tricks
Yesterday, about fifty members of my church stood around a pool in the rain. It was baptism day. As a handful of new believers entered and exited the pool, I thought about the change each had gone through in such a short time. Joy, peace, freedom, love, grace. Cleaned up lives, healed relationships, new habits. These people have been transformed radically by their encounter with God.

Cleaning Day
Yesterday, hubby & I cleaned. Not just the normal, straighten-dust-done kind of cleaning. We did the start from scratch-wash everything-deep cleaning thing. Now, if you've ever been to my house, you know that this is a bit...well, rare. But things had gotten out of control. We were starting to misplace stuff, feel claustrophobic, and had stopped inviting people over.

Prayer and my toothbrush
I started a new job recently, and it's got me at a flat run. For the past couple of years, I've worked from home, which means I could get my work done and still have time for errands, breaks and odd hours. Now, they expect me at work. Everyday. For the WHOLE day. I know what you're thinking--welcome to the real world, Laura. And it's not like I haven't done this before. It's just that I'd gotten spoiled in recent years.

Wrapped in the Love
I’m wondering if God’s trying to tell me something. I noticed it first a couple of days ago. I’ve been working my way through the non-Pauline epistles (all the letters written by people other than Paul in the New Testament), and the other day, I hit Jude. It’s a short letter, just one chapter long, and it’s a rallying cry to battle apostasy.

Wanted: Your "Goosebump" Verse
You know those verses that just resonate with you? They make you hit your knees with gratitude, or tear up because of how much your loved, or ache with gratitude. I know whenever I’m in Ephesians and I get to chapter 3, I start getting giddy, knowing that I’m getting close to 3:14-19. When I hear Jeremiah 29:11, I can’t wait for 29:13. And don't even get me started on Romans. There are just some passages that give me goosebumps.
