Recently I received an email about a Christian unmarried woman considering the use of donor sperm to conceive a baby. Another woman who heard about it suggested a solution: the church should hunt down a man for the unmarried woman to marry.
Um, no.

Um, no.

I’m wondering if God’s trying to tell me something. I noticed it first a couple of days ago. I’ve been working my way through the non-Pauline epistles (all the letters written by people other than Paul in the New Testament), and the other day, I hit Jude. It’s a short letter, just one chapter long, and it’s a rallying cry to battle apostasy.

Many moons ago when I had no kids of my own, I went to visit my sister who at that time had just one son. My four year old nephew had bunkbeds and he of course wanted Aunt Terri to sleep on the top bunk in his room with him. I obliged (how could I say no?).

I spent Mother's Day, as I do every year of late, thinking about two women I have never met: Linda is around 43 years old and Naomi is about 28 (names are changed). I have no idea what either of these two ladies looks like or exactly where either of them might be found. I have never had a conversation with either; we've never exchanged letters or emails. I wonder about them often, but neither of them have any knowledge of me.

I must admit it's true. Most of these screaming fits occur in the middle of the night after everyone else is asleep and my mind refuses to shut down. If you're wondering why I don't awaken everyone in my house, it is only because my screaming fits occur almost exclusively inside my head. Ironically it's usually in the midst of such fits that God speaks to me most clearly.

Happy Labor Day! I hope everyone is having a great holiday! I am taking the day off also, so here is something I wrote several years ago soon after the adoption of my oldest son (with a little editing from present-day me). Enjoy your day!
