A Weekend of Commitment

This weekend we did baptisms at my church, and it was a thrill to see 35 people (most of them adults!) take a very public step to show their love for Christ.

This weekend we did baptisms at my church, and it was a thrill to see 35 people (most of them adults!) take a very public step to show their love for Christ.

At Bethel (my church), we allow our people time to share their stories before they’re baptized. There was some amazing stuff shared. One person started attending Bethel after her grandfather was shot & killed. Another came at a desperate time in her life. Another came because he saw something “different” in a person and wanted to know what it was (it was Jesus!). A 9-year-old shared his story of being hit by a car & almost killed…but still determined to be baptized even if it meant he had to be wheeled into the service in a wheelchair. Some kids shared how they trusted Christ at home with their parents. Some adults shared how they were saved at a young age, then strayed away from God…only to experience His wonderful & patient love in their lives, so they returned to church and are now determined to live for Him.

In all, we did 4 services this weekend, and as I watched & listened to these wonderful people share their stories, I realized why I love these services so much. Because real people share their real story about how they experienced God’s real love.

And I gotta say, that beats listening to me give a sermon any week!
