Best Reunion Ever!

This last week my wife and I drove half way across the country to attend her 20th high school class reunion.  It was a great time had by all complete with good food, funny stories and some wild moves from people who wanted to relive their high school days once more on the dance floor.  Overall the experience for people who made it to the reunion was terrific and they were all so happy that they decided to attend.

The whole experience made me think about reunions in general.  The experience of getting back together with family and friends after a period of time away from each other is pretty cool if you think about it.   I think that visiting with each other, eating tons of food together and just being in each other’s presence is what makes a reunion great.

I think God feels this every day because as each second passes, heaven is holding the best family reunion ever!  Every second, new family members are joining in this party and they are getting to see their old loved ones they have missed on earth and best of all they get to finally meet face to face with Jesus.  What a glorious party that has to be!

Unfortunately for many…they will not be attending this glorious family reunion.  They will be spending eternity without anyone, alone and in constant torment.   What a terrible thing!  That’s because those people will have never entered into God’s family and therefore won’t be invited to the reunion.  They will have spent their whole lives thinking that when they die they just get to go to heaven and that’s that.  They will believe that God will warmly welcome them despite that fact that those same people will have never spent two seconds trying to get to know Him at all

What’s amazing is that all we have to do to get invited to the reunion is to ask the Lord if we can come.  We do this by embracing what His Son Jesus did for us on the Cross (which is the reason we can even attend the reunion in the first place).  The Gospel is the invitation to the party and our whole-hearted acceptance of it is our confirmation that we can attend.  I just pray that all my family and friends make the choice to accept God’s eternal invitation.  I’d really hate to not have them there with me.  I just can’t stand the thought!

I dream and pray that someday that when I grow old and die and go to heaven, I’ll see my parents, my brother and sister, my grandparents, my uncles and aunts and cousins and friends.  I’ll await my wife and kids and other family and friends that will not have made it to the party yet.  I dream of seeing Jesus and how stunning He will look and how much in awe I will be.  I dream of just hanging out with them worshipping God and enjoying being in their presence.  It will be indeed be the best reunion ever!!!
