Besties For Life

Sunday School Chronicles
Me: Do you have friends?
Kids: Yes! Of course we do! Yeah!
Me: Haha! Okay! Now. Do you have a best friend?
Kids: Oh yeah! Absolutely! Yup!
Me: Same! I’ve got best friends too! We all know there’s different levels of friendship. You’ve got the friends you only see at school, the friends you see during sports, the friends you hang out with, and your best friends are the ones you trust more than anything. Why is your best friend your best friend?
Kid 1: Because we do everything together.
Kid 2: I can tell them anything and they won’t tell everybody else.
Kid 3: Because we have a lot in common.
Me: Yes! The same with my best friends. Except we can’t do everything together because of things called bills, work, and responsibilities but we talk every single day. Did you know Jesus calls us friends?
Kids: No. Really? He does?
Me: Yes! Jesus even told His disciples that there is no greater love than someone who will lay down their life for a friend. What is the greatest thing Jesus ever did for us?
Kid 2: He died for us.
Me: Yes! And because of that, He calls us “friends.” Because Jesus made the ultimate sacrifice for us. That’s how much Jesus loves us. When you think of your besties, be sure to count Jesus.
Reflect: Jesus is the greatest best friend we could have. He listens to us. He cares for us. He loves us. How can you show the love of Jesus to your best friends and even those you don’t consider a friend? Jesus shared His love with all people, not just His besties.
