This week on the Table podcast I interview Scott Cunningham about how seminary training is done around the world. Scott works with seminary accreditation for the Overseas Council. He knows what is happening on several continents. So we asked him to discuss what he is seeing around the world and what it can teach us. It is a fascinating look at how context impacts training and emphases.

Supreme Court Decisions a Week Later

I have been mulling over the Supreme Court decisions of a week ago. Perhaps the most important observation to make is that 25 years ago such a decision would have been extremely unlikely. It became possible because our culture has shifted significantly in its attitude towards the issue of who should be married. So the court did not create the situation. It reacted to one. The issue was not just one of law but of culture. So we face the reality of how our culture is changing.

Sometimes it is just fun to let people know about something that is available and that also is useful. One of my colleagues at Dallas Seminary is John Dyer. In fact we now office in the same building since I moved to the Hendricks Center. He is our director of Communications and is a techno wiz kid.

Life in an Islamic context

The Table podcast starts a special three week series on life in an Islamic context interviewing three people who grew up in Muslim contexts and came to Christian faith. Fikret Bocek became a believer while living in Turkey and now is a pastor there. He presided over the funeral of three missionaries martyred in Turkey a few years ago and also has experienced persecution for his faith.

A Man on His Knees and the Church

I have served at Trinity Fellowship Church for well over 30 years. It is a lively community with an active elder board. We love to share key events with the body. Last week we had a ordination service for a man and his wife who both graduated from Seminary and literally were travelling from the service to their new ministry in West Virginia.

Historical Adam discussion

The last two weeks at the Table Podcast we have discussed the Historical Adam. The entire discussion is with Dr. Richard Averbeck of Trinity Evangelical Divinity School. He is an expert in Ancient Near Eastern texts and so can discuss the parallel creation accounts. That is the first half of the podcast, while the second half is a discussion of Genesis 1-3.
