Craig Blomberg’s Can We Believe the Bible- Chapter 4
Defining and Appreciating Inerrancy by Coming to Grips with The Complexities of the Interpreter’s Task (Chapter 4 Can We Beleive the Bible?- Don’t These Issues Rule Out Biblical Inerrancy) Craig Blomberg’s fourth chapter in Can We Still Believe the Bible, examines some objections to inerrancy from both the right and the left. Yes, there is a position to the right of holding to inerrancy. It is holding it in a way that is slow to recognize solutions that fit within the view by undervaluing the complexities of interpretation. People are far more familiar with those who challenge inspiration and doubt what Scripture declares on the left, but others attempt to…

More Truth Matters. My Interview with Selma Wilson, President of B & H Publishing Group
My recent release with Andreas Kostenberger and Josh Chatraw continues to do well. It is working its way up the charts at amazon.com, being called a hot release in apologetics. I was in Nashville a few weeks ago to speak to the Broadman & Holman staff about the book and tone in engagement about Christianity. While I was there, I did an interview for them. It is now up on the B & H blog. It gives insight into what this latest book is all about. Here is an excerpt: Q: First, what was the motivation behind the book, Truth Matters? A: I wrote the book to myself. What I mean by…

Truth Matters Released, Janet Parshall Interview
This month brings the relase of Truth Matters: Confident Faith in a Confusing World. This is a book I wrote with Andreas Kostenberger and Josh Chatraw. It deals with the common objections one hears to the Christian faith on university course settings and on documentaries, as illustrated by the many books of Bart Ehrman. It is written for students, youth leaders, pastors and parents at a popular level to introduce them to issues they normally are completely unprepared to discuss. I have been doing a host of radio and television at a national level for this book. It is a potential gift for high school graduates. We hope it meets…

More on the Camels Updated (2/18/2014)
Here is a solid interview with Dr. Andrew Steinmann on the camel issue. http://issuesetc.org/2014/02/11/1-archaeologists-dispute-camels-in-genesis-dr-andrew-steinmann-21114/ Check it out. I now add a definitive study in this area by Martin Heide. This summarizes his detailed work on this issue fromt he University of Marburg in Germany. He argues the Bible does not claim domesticated camels are widespread in the Patriarchal period. Their use is selectively noted and is tied to people with associations with Mesopotamia. So the assumptions in the media hype are exaggerated. Here is the link: https://www.academia.edu/2065314/_The_Domestication_of_the_Camel_Biological_Archaeological_and_Inscriptional_Evidence_from_Mesopotamia_Egypt_Israel_and_Arabia_and_Literary_Evidence_from_the_Hebrew_Bible_in_Ugarit_Forschungen_42_2010_Munster_Ugarit-Verlag_2011_331-384 I never thought the study of camels would be such a big deal!

Table Podcast on Ministry and Human Trafficking
The latest Table Podcast is on ministry to those trapped in human trafficking. It is a little discussed topic, but is a significant opportunity for ministry. Here is the link: http://www.dts.edu/thetable/play/helping-women-escape-sex-trafficking/ I think you will find the conversation with Katie Pedigo and Linda Tomzak illuminating. I knew little about this issue until my work with the Hendricks Center and my discussions with Linda opened my eyes to this issue.

Camels Disprove the Bible: Am I Missing Something?
This week has seen op-ed pieces in CNN and other locales saying that recent discoveries about domesticated camels in Israel prove the Bible has erred. I have seen two such articles in the last week, one on CNN and the other in the Huffington Post. The gist of the claim is that there has been a recent discovery that shows that domesticated camels in Israel go back to the 10th century BC. The alleged error is that the Bible claims that such camels went back to the partriarchs several centuries earlier. Thus, it is said that the find proves a biblical mistake. Some of the writing has been quite cute.…

Australian Broadcasting Interview on Jesus, Link Now Works for All
Australian Broadcasting did make my interview on Jesus into a podcast today. So the link now works for anyone. The interview is just over 33 minutes long with some phone calls (they are all over the map). The interview reflects a discussion with a person with curiousity and much cultural perception of Jesus. I think it is an interesting exchange. This was a national broadcast on Christmas Eve. Let me know what you think. http://www.abc.net.au/overnights/stories/s3922529.htm

Interview about Jesus on Australian National Radio
I got to do an interview yesterday on Australian National Radio on the Overnight program with Trevor Chapell. We did about 30 minutes on Jesus. It was a really enjoyable experience. It also shows what a conversation with someone who has all kinds of questions can be like. I was hoping to be able to post this, but I have no way to do this here. ABC (what they are called) may turn it into a podcast but it will be a few days if that happens. If so, I will let you all know. Darrell Bock

Podcast Examines an Often, Asked but Rarely Pursued Question
I am often asked what the difference rreally is between Roman Catholicims and Protestantism. The Reformation is now almost a half a millinnium old. Most of us were not there! So what exactly are the differences? The latest Tabel podcast covers this topic in the next two weeks. Systematic and Historical theologinas Scott Horrell and Michael Svigel help me cvoer thsi ground. We will be looking at seven differences in strictly descriptive terms. The result is one can see how distinct the approaches of the two groupings are to theology and Christian faith. As often as this question is asked, it is rarely pursued. So here in an hour and…

Strategic Planning in the Church
The Table podcast covers strategic planning and mission in the church this week. Many churches get set into a routine and move from week to week with no clear long term goals. How does a church move past that kind of routine? Aubrey Malphurs discusses this on our podcast over the next two weeks. He also covers how important planning and developing leadership is. I think it is a very useful discussion. Here is the link: http://www.dts.edu/thetable/play/reshaping-church-mission-vision/ Let me know what you think of what he says. In particular, it is developing leadership that sometimes is lacking. What kind of a program do pastors have for encouraging growth and involvement…
