Generosity

Jesus said, “If you give even a cup of cold water to one of the least of My followers, you will surely be rewarded.” Matthew 10: 42
Generosity is supposed to be a standard characteristic of Christ-followers. We’re supposed to be generous to others because God’s been so generous to us…
• in saving us
• forgiving us
• loving us
• being patient with us

Generosity is supposed to be a standard characteristic of Christ-followers. We’re supposed to be generous to others because God’s been so generous to us…

• loving us
• being patient with us
• preparing a place in heaven for us
• giving us breath, etc., etc., etc.
Throughout the Bible, God asks His followers to be generous to those that society overlooks, to those the world labels as “the least.” Which is why giving a simple cup of water to someone in need is an act of generosity…because it causes us to serve another, it humbles us in putting the needs of another before our own, and it causes us to stop & think about the needs of others around us.

And this simple act should be a reminder to us about God’s on-going generosity in our lives in giving us the simple yet life-sustaining daily provisions of food & water & shelter. This is the stuff we tend to take for granted, the stuff we tend to think is normal or owed to us.
So how are you being generous to others this Christmas season? How are you being generous to “the least” that God has placed around you? And in being generous to others, how are you being reminded of God’s on-going generosity to you?

I am praying that you will put into action the generosity that comes from your faith as you understand and experience all the good things we have in Christ. Philemon 1:6
