Build An Ark, Part 2

It has been raining a lot this summer but I have not seen anyone building an ark.  Except of courae, those who have read this article and have begun building an ark for their family.  How about you?  Today we will look at the at the parallels for the protection, peace and provision that the ark provided and the protection, peace and provision that God wants our families to provide.

 THE ARK

Protection – The ark would provide protection from the floodwaters that would destroy all life on the earth under the heavens (Gen.6:17). Noah’s family was protected from the destruction that was about to take place because they were on the ark. Noah had prepared just as God instructed him so that he and his family would experience God’s protection.

Peace - The ark provided a place of peace from the storms that were raging outside.  A place of peace from the springs from the great deep that burst forth and the floodgates of the heavens that were opened (Gen. 7:11)

Provision – God told Noah what he would need for the provision of his family physically as well as what was needed to prevent the extinction of  His creation (bringing the animals as God instructed – Gen. 7:2-3)

THE FAMILY

Protection – The family ark is to be a place that we are protected from the enemy. We provide that protection through fervent prayer for our children and spouses. We are given that protection when we choose to put on the full armor of God (Eph. 6:10-18) and undergo preparation by studying God’s word and seeking the face of Him who provides our protection.

Peace – Our family ark will provide a place of peace where the family is ensured of their safety. God instructs us to not be afraid (Isaiah 41:10). Using the imagery found in vs. 11, Satan desires to burst forth from the great deep and destroy our families and the floodgates of heaven represent the coming judgment of God, however because we know Christ, we can have peace with these truths and teach our children that true peace comes from Him.

Provision – God intends for the family to be a place of provision. Our children should have their physical, spiritual and emotional needs met in the home and through their relationship with Jesus Christ. The family is the method God wants to use to prevent the extinction of His people here on earth (Genesis 9:1).

What can we do in response? Build an ARK!! As parents, we need to make sure that our home is a place that children find protection, peace and provision. We should instill into their lives, the truths of God’s word (Deut. 6:4-9). To teach them about who God is, what He has done and the possibilities of what He wants to do in our families in order to further His kingdom. We need to make adjustments in our own personal lives and families that will allow time for preparation. That may include making sacrifices of our comfort, possessions and schedule to stop what we are doing in response to God’s commands and build an ark!

As children's ministers, directors and leaders, it is our responsibility to lead our parents to assume the role that God has given them.  Encourage them when they are taking steps to provide a loving environment for their children.

I know, you say, but it’s not raining. To that I respond, "It’s not raining, YET!"
