ICETE in Kenya

I am currently at the International Consultation for Theological Educators in Karen, Kenya (just outside of Nairobi). It is a meeting that takes place very three years for educators from around the world. 57 countries are represented with 220 delegates. The theme is: Rooted in the Word, Engaged in the World.

I am currently at the International Consultation for Theological Educators in Karen, Kenya (just outside of Nairobi). I was here for the Lausanne Movement to present our Resources bibliography for the Cape Town Commitment. That can be found at the Lausanne.org website and downloaded there (Just find the Cape Town 2010 or the Commitment tab and go from there).

Seminaries are wrestling with how to train their church leaders so they are able to share the gospel and also help people engage their cultures. So there is a great deal of discussion about how curriculum can help or prevent us from doing this. The key emphasis is a recognition that seminary is about far more than a student simply gaining biblical information and knowledge. There are concerns that students appreciate the relational and corporate dimensions to learning and develop skills in assessing and contributing to culture. I leave for a messianic Jewish conference in New York City tonight, as this trip involves a spectrum of what the body of Christ is.
