It’s Just Dirt!

So our church just put down some earnest money on some land that we plan on building a church on.  The land cost a lot of money and quite honestly it isn’t all that special.  The land isn’t on the main road and a small percentage of the land is on a flood plain.  The difference however is that someday the area where the land is will be brimming with new homes, schools and parks.  Someday the area will be full of families and individuals living the American dream.  Someday many of those people will potentially be looking for a church and hopefully some of those people will find our church to be what they are looking for.  Others, however who won’t be looking for a church at all. They will have no need for God and don’t really know or care that our church is one of their neighbors.  It’s those people that will be the driving force behind the mission of the church and that is to make disciples for Christ and to make Jesus’s name famous in our community.

Currently we meet in a public middle school which is the largest facility in our area.  We currently have about 500 people coming to our worship services every weekend.  The school sets some pretty tough restrictions on us and it’s very cost prohibitive overall.  The hope with the new land and subsequent building is that we won’t have any restrictions with what we can do with it and that our church will become the hub of the community for both believers and non-believers.  We desire for people to see our future church land and building as a safe place where they will feel welcomed and loved…a modern day Bethany.   (In case you don’t know this Bethany was about the only place Jesus was ever fully accepted while he was on this earth.)

As for now, we simply put down some money on some land.  Land that isn’t all that special, land that doesn’t have anyone living around it and land that has no idea of the impact it’s going to make for Jesus someday.   Land that will accept believers, non-believers, good people, bad people, hurt people, happy people, messed up people, stable people, whole families and singles.  Land that will hopefully be a place where Jesus feels welcomed and where real life change happens.  Our prayer is that the 30 acres we are buying become the most impactful 30 acres in North Texas for Christ…but for now it’s just dirt!
