I've found this simple truth impacts my life most when I live it out in 3 dimensions.
Living life in 3D requires cultivating relationships with a variety of guys….
- One who walks ahead of me, who is a trusted guide.
- One who walks beside me, who is my peer.
- One who walks behind me, who I can mentor.
When you intentionally build those relationships you are living life in 3D.
So why is 3D living so powerful?
I need a brother to walk beside me on my spiritual journey. This companionship through mutual accountability assures me we have each other’s backs in pushing forward.
When I am teachable and connect with another godly guy further along in life, I learn and grow in wisdom. Temptations and challenges tend to morph at different life stages.
It is vital to have a real life guide who understands the upcoming highs and lows of the journey ahead. He has the credibility….he’s been there.
When Anne and I had 3 kids under the age of 14, the man in front of me had 3 teenage boys. He shared how exhausting it was getting up early for work as his teenage sons stayed up late at night.
He and his wife had to be intentional about connecting both with their sons during their ‘down time’ and nurturing their sexual intimacy as a couple. It was not easy.
His wife is now tenaciously battling breast cancer for the third time.
I have been deeply challenged by the way he has persevered through tough times as he faithfully relies on God in spite of his circumstances. I respect him and want to be like him.
Then I reach back to the guy behind me. I invest my life in another teachable man who was where I used to be. I am reminded of where God has brought me and of His patience with me on the journey.
I get excited and am challenged to leave a legacy as I nurture a younger brother.
So what dimension are you living in today?
Do you have a man walking in front, beside and behind you?
If there is a man missing?
If so, ask God to bring him into your life – you will be amazed at what God does over time.
