Mundane or Glorious

It may happen like this- an individual comes to an intersection in the road where a decision has to be made and that person makes it- the firefighters going up the stairs at 911; a young doctor who forces his way through the back window of a burning car to hold up the neck of the unconscious driver until the paramedics can get her out with the jaws of life; the pastor in Eastern Europe who smuggles over 10,000 Bibles into Romania.

There is a circumstantial intersection requiring a point of action and the individual takes the challenge and acts: ordinary people rising to extraordinary challenges requiring unusual character and bravery.

Or it may be much less dramatic and requires years of one’s life: leaving the mission field to care for an elderly mother with Alzheimers all day every day; pastoring in an obscure geographical area to the glory of God with nothing earthshaking to report; serving Him in a small village in a country not the individual’s just so the people in that country will have scriptures in their own language. These acts of service require the “long-haul” kind of perseverance and bravery.

ALL of these stories matter and will not be forgotten.

It is tempting at times to wonder if your story or your life has any significance or if you are just marking time doing the best you can with what you have been given. Most of life is routine and mundane. The reality of it is juxtaposed from the dreams you had of how it would be and often they do not match.

God has a different perspective. Your story matters and will not be forgotten Hebrews 6:5 “For God is not unjust so as to forget your work and the love which you have shown toward His name in having ministered and ministering to the saints.”

Most of us will live stories that are pretty ordinary randomly punctuated by obvious God ordained opportunities. Whatever it is, your story is significant because it is God’s story chosen for you and designed by Him to showcase His glory through you. Ephesians 1:12 “…in order that we, who were the first to hope in Christ, might be for the praise of His glory.”

God is equipping you with what you need for the purpose He has created you to achieve and He is doing it within your individual story. No one else can bring Him glory through your story but you.
