Share your NET Bible story with us
Last month we added a link to the “Contact us” page entitled Tell us How Bible.org has Blessed You. It is always exciting to hear when someone reads and benefits from the NET Bible and the “Ministry First” apporach of Bible.org. That’s why the project began: so people could read a modern English translation, without cost if necessary, and benefit from the scholarship there. It is a little more difficult, however, to know exactly when that happens or how many are reading and studying from the NET Bible. Yes, we can track downloads of the NET Bible and sales of the printed versions, but those numbers often don’t translate well into real world effect. So we are trying to think of ways to gauge how the NET Bible is being used out in the real world.

So here’s the point of this blog post: I want to enlist your help in finding people who are using the NET Bible in their ministry on a regular basis. Do you preach or teach from the NET Bible in ministry? Does your pastor preach from the NET Bible? Does your college or seminary professor use the NET Bible translation and notes in the classroom? Is there a key influencer in your life who uses the NET Bible as they minister to others? If so, please use the link above or the comments below to let us know about them and their ministry. Any links to their materials which use the NET Bible would also be great. Thanks for your help, and feel free to pass this post onto others. In this case the more the merrier!

old German Bible
I was in St.Augustine,Flordia a few months ago and found a rare old book published in 1889.The title is “THE CIVIL WAR IN SONG AND STORY” by Frank Moore.
One of the many interesting stories is about a J.H.Jalloneck,a Union soldier from Sryacruse,NewYork,who captured an old Bible from a confederate soldier in a battle in Virginia.This Bible was one of the first Protestant Bibles printed in the year 1634,from the Netherlands.Iinside the cover was a receipt for payment of $150.00,along with a signed proclamtion from the King of the Netherlands.
Mr.Jalloneck presented this Bible to the editor of the then Syracruse Journal.

How the NET Bible has helped
The more and more I study the more and more I find certain “common” English translations lacking, either they are stiff or not consistent in theology (you can feel when one translator makes a point for say Calvinism and another makes a point against it).
I decided back at Christmas to buy a physical copy of NET Bible for preaching. I had been using a digital copy through MacSword and Logos Bible Software. I initially bought the Reader’s Edition because I thought the notes would cause me to have to do too much flipping from the pulpit. I have greatly enjoyed preaching from the NET Bible and found it a faithful translation (quirky at times, but faithful). I have recommended it on several occasions to other friends and to other ministers.
My birthday is coming up the end of April and I am thinking about buying a First Edition so I can have the notes physically infront of me…maybe I can win one from you guys instead!!!

Liking NET Bible More Every Day
My first post at Bible.org:
All I was really looking for was a software Bible that I could have on my laptop when I couldn't connect to the Internet. There is a plethora of sites for any Bible version online nowadays, but they are no help when not connected. I first found eSword and I love it, especially because I'm not wealthy and can't run out and spend $200-300 on software every time I really need something.
AND THEN I SOMEHOW FOUND THE NET BIBLE. And I was skeptical at the start, since I was unfamiliar with the translation. I don't understand why, because I know about every other. My discovery came at the perfect time, because even though I do like the NIV and have used it for years, it's just not a very memorable read. I also fear their upcoming revision, as I know much of what will be in it.
I wanted something that has the same level of inspired phrasing as my trusty old KJV, and the more I read the NET Bible the more I'm convinced it's the one. The NET is making me re-think and re-study many verses. The notes are like a lay scholar's guide at my fingertips. Most of all, the wording is very "fresh," memorable and — I don't know how else to say it — "comfortable."
It answers for me the question of "what next" after having already read my Bible dozens of times.
As a former Editor of news and journalism of many years, I can easily see the careful thought that went into rendering the various MSS sources into truly well-composed English.
Congratulations — but also, shame on you, because now I'm just not going to be able to get by without obtaining a really nice hard copy of this!
As we say in the business, "This is excellent 'copy'."
