Thanksgiving “Thank You” Message to Childrens’ Ministry Workers…

The fourth Thursday in November comes around every year.  Turkey, family, and a Dallas Cowboys game – who could ask for more?   This is a Thanksgiving “thank you card” to every children’s ministry worker in America, so forward it to your friends in ministry, or hit the Facebook share button at the top of this post for all of them to see.  They deserve the thanks.

To every children’s ministry worker – Thank You!  You are the unsung heros of the Christian church.  This year you have changed diapers, wiped runny noses,

calmed tears, and held tiny fingers that had been shut in the cupboard door until they were all better.  You have listened to stories about puppies, grandma’s ailments, and little brothers who bite.  You passed out stickers, went on outings to McDonalds, and filled every seatbelt with a child on your way to church.  You know all about their soccer games, piano recitals, and their favorite teacher’s name.

You have taught about creation, Moses, and the flood.  You’ve taught songs like “Deep and Wide” and “Jesus Loves Me” to eager youngsters.  You have helped children pronounce Ecclesiastes and Habakkuk as they learned the books of the Bible.

You’ve stuck with it while children to whom you minister learn to deal with the injustices of life.  You’ve admitted you don’t understand when a child lost a parent or grandparent.  You’ve seen families collapse by divorce with the kids as collateral damage.  I pray you haven’t seen the effects of abuse with any kids in your church, but I know better.   But in all of that, you haven’t quit.  You kept going.  Even though quitting makes a lot of sense, you didn’t.  You stuck with it.

Because of your steadfastness children are being reached for Christ.  Their faith is growing.  Here is what I’ve heard from some of them.

Ricky – age 7 –  “My name is Ricky.  I play football.  I like spaghetti.  I love Awana.  A lot of my friends are in my club.  I’ll be praying for you.”

Chandler – “It is BARF night here in the boys group.  That stands for Bring A Real Friend.  I love Awana.”

Kevin – 2nd grade – My name is Kevin.  My favorite part of Awana is game time.  I like Jesus Christ because He made us.  He died for our sins.”

Ricky, Chandler, and Kevin enjoy the ministries in their church because of you, the faithful servant in children’s ministry.  Someone took the time to love each one of them.  Someone took the time to prioritize the Gospel and elevate God’s word in their minds.  That someone was you.  The names may be different, but you have impacted young people this year.  For that, I say “Thank You.”

I am so thankful for everyone who sets aside their time, energy, and finances to minister to children and youth.  So this Thanksgiving, when you sharing blessings around the dinner table, remember to thank God for those in your church on the front lines of the most important battle ever – the battle for the souls, hearts, and minds of young people.

Happy Thanksgiving to you and your loved ones!
