June 4 IBR Jesus Group Meeting for 2006

The Bulletin for Biblical Research, the periodical of IBR, is publishing papers of the IBR Jesus group one at a time. These meetings take place once a year to discuss key events in Jesus’ life. This year’s meeting in Dallas just finished with essays by Craig Blomberg on Jesus’ Table Fellowship with sinners, Howard Marshall’s paper on the Last Supper and Bob Webb’s piece on the crucifixion as well as the trial before Pilate.

These essays will be updated in light of the group’s feedback and published down the road. This is a major effort to address issues associated with the Historical Jesus. Five essays have been published and two more are in various states of preparation for publication. Those in line to appear include an essay on Sabbath controversies by Donald Hagner and one of the Jewish examination of Jesus by me. We have two more years of meetings planned. For those interested in detailed treatments of key events, these essays should be quite helpful in addressing key issues and historical background. They have a decidedly distinct perspecitve from most historical Jesus material that is more skeptical in tone.
