Living Legacy

This week I received news of a friends “graduation” to heaven after the recurrence of an aggressive cancer. At times like this we often reflect not only on the brevity of this life but on the legacy we leave.

This week I received news of a friends “graduation” to heaven after the recurrence of an aggressive cancer. At times like this we often reflect not only on the brevity of this life but on the legacy we leave.

My friend lived life to the full, investing in others by teaching the bible to young people for many years in the Dallas area. She loved her husband and family and together they modeled the joy of living for kingdom purposes. In addition to her family, her legacy is represented by the many touched, equipped and encouraged by her ministry.

Paul speaks of the Philippians as “my joy and crown.” (Philippians 4:1) With her life invested in others, my friend is celebrating today a life well lived having invested in others. They are her joy and crown. While those who love her experience the grief of separation, she is enjoying everlasting joy in the presence of Jesus.

Two things last forever; people and the word of God. As I think of my plans for this day and this week, I am challenged to make these two my focus. A life well lived calls me to focus my priorities. How about yours?
