To begin with…

You may be wondering about my blog’s title NET Bible Revolution. That’s because it’s going to be (loosely) tied to the NET Bible (of which I’m the Project Director and Managing Editor, more about that later) and, frankly, we’re out to start a revolution – a revolution in the translation of the Bible, in the distribution of the Bible, and in the use of technology to further both these ends… it’s important to remember that the NET Bible was the first Bible translation in history to be published electronically on the Internet before it was published in print, signalling a changing emphasis from print-based publication to digital electronic publication.

I myself am a high-end technology user and (fairly) early adapter of emerging technologies. In many instances I see these as revolutionizing the study and teaching of the Bible, something practically my whole career has been devoted to. Whether using satellite imagery to illustrate points about the layout of ancient Mediterranean harbors, advanced software programs to speed Bible translation and exegesis, multi-spectral imaging to examine ancient manuscripts, or emerging search technologies to study the biblical text, I am always looking for new ways to apply recent technological advances to the task of making the Bible more available, understandable, and transparently clear to modern readers than ever before… the revolution has begun!

Digital electronic publication on the Internet

I was not using the phrase "digital electronic" to refer to specific hardware (components of computers and other devices) but to the digital electronic format for storing information. Most people today refer to EITHER digital publication on the Internet OR electronic publication, but the terms can be combined. Here’s a link to a report sponsored by ICSTI and CENDI on "Digital Electronic Archiving" that is using the term "digital electronic" the same way I have: http://www.icsti.org/Dig_Archiving_Report_1999.pdf
