Calling all Christian: Please act like one!

Have you ever treated a waiter, waitress, cashier, clerk, phone solicitor, door to door salesman, bellboy, maid, or any other service oriented/servant type person less than good or nice? I know I have. In fact the more I think about it, the more I realize what a “jerk” I’ve been to at least two or three of those kinds of folks. Sometimes, I don’t even look at their eyes when they speak to me. Shame on me! The truth is we all do that! We blow people off all of the time and sometimes treat servant-oriented people less than they deserve. Oh come on now…admit it you’ve been a jerk too! You’d be lying if you said you haven’t. I don’t even know why we do it but we do! The sad thing is that we are actually acting completely the opposite of Jesus. You see Jesus would never blow off anyone, especially the lowly servant. He would look into their eyes and talk to those people and share His good news with them. He might even wash their feet! Yikes!

He would look into their eyes and talk to those people and share His good news with them. He might even wash their feet! Yikes! This is why I’m pleading with all Christian to work on treating everyone like Jesus would treat them. I think the impact of treating ALL people with respect, with kindness and love would be powerful. You might even gain their interest into why you are treating them so well and ultimately you might get the opportunity to share Christ with them. Think about that!! When I think about how Jesus would treat others I can’t help think about the people that Jesus was willing to have dinner with (the worst sinners), who he healed (the crippled & lame) , who he ran around with (fishermen and a tax collector). Jesus didn’t care what they did or what they had done only who they were and who they could be. Let’s refer to Matthew 22 – 36-39 when Jesus was asked what the greatest commandment was and He replied: “Love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the greatest commandment and the second is like it: Love your Neighbor as yourself.” I think verse pretty much speak for itself. All we need to now is understand who our neighbor is and in turn try to be better about loving them. Try to love your neighbor today a little more than you did yesterday. Look into their eyes and treat them like Jesus would. You might change a life or at minimum make their day better.
