MOVE!!!

A few weeks ago, I spent a few days in Phoenix at a church planters conference.  The conference was designed to help encourage current and future church planters.  The theme of the conference was “Move”.  For future church planters, it means don’t just stand there, get going and do what God has called you to do, go plant a church.  For current church planters, it means to move in a way that would make your church grow or make a greater impact in the community that God has you in.

For those of you in established churches, let me tell you the one thing that you can do right now that will change you and your ministry for the better.  You ready for this?

Act like you’re planting a church!  Yep, that’s it.  Act like you’re a church planter. Allow me to explain.

When I’m around church planters, there are three things that I pick up on that I need to transfer to the ministries that I run.

#1) They live for The Why (Spreading the Gospel) and are willing to risk everything for it.

#2) They are not complacent

#3) They are desperate.

When I say that they live for The Why, I mean that they are fearless in their pursuit to do what God has called them to do.  So much so that they would be willing to give up financial security, benefits, and comfort and live without fully knowing where they are getting their next paycheck.  Sure CP’s (as I call them) gain support, they never fully know how long that support will last.  They are true mavericks and live for their Why…actually, it’s God’s Why but it’s ours too.

They are not complacent, and unrest is part of what drives them to do more.  They live comfortably uncomfortable. They even break things that are not broke if they need to do just to see if by breaking it, they could increase their ability to live for their Why.

They are desperate! The result of being fearless and non-complacent means that you might end up being desperate.  Desperate to grow and expand and break through goals and see life change and watch people move.  Desperate to make a significant kingdom difference and change the course for future generations.  Desperation will generally create movement and church planters are willing to move.

If I gain anything from church planters, it’s that I need to be relentless and fearless about sharing the Gospel, non-complacent in my passion for it and desperate to get it to as many people as I can.  Do you live for the Why or are you complacent?  Are you Desperate to move? Good questions for all of us.

Blessings,
