Top Ten Blog Posts

When I looked at my Tapestry posts in order of popularity, they provided some insights into what interests readers. Of particular note was that my post on female masturbation had more than 10,000 hits.

At the time I wrote it, I found virtually nothing on the subject on the web from a Christian perspective. So clearly this is a topic about which people seek direction.

Here are my top ten posts. They reveal some trends in reader interest:

1. Women “Going Solo” Sexually  Lots of Christian leaders have sought in vain to find masturbation mentioned in the Bible.

2. The Latest from Some Christian Thought Leaders  Sex. Movies. Social media. Church dropout rates for 20-somethings and other false stats—throw a bunch of Christian journalists together, and you’ll overhear them talking about all of these.

3. Create in Me a Green Heart  A Christian view of the environment.

4. “Not with Braided Hair…Or Pearls”  Ever wondered why Peter had a problem with pearls (1 Peter 3:3) and why both Peter and Paul took issue with braids?

5. It’s Time to Plan for Halloween   All Hallows Eve, the eve of All Saints Day, is less than a month away. (Posts with holiday tie-ins are always popular.)

6. Vindicating Hagar  Of all the studies on Bible women I’ve ever done, only one included a look at Hagar.  What does the Bible tell us about God’s plan for the Arab world?

7. “O-sama, O-sama, Hey, Hey, Goodbye”?  How did our response to bin Laden’s death line up with scriptural imperatives vs. scriptural observations?

8. Twelve Steps to a More Christ-Focused Christmas  At what other time of year can we walk into the mall and hear music that directs us to worship Christ the Lord?

9. Manhood vs Grandma?  In the thirty-three years since I said “I do,” I’ve heard many messages and read lots of books on marriage. And if I’ve heard and read one thing about the job of the husband, it’s that “provider” is one of his key roles–based on a verse in 1 Timothy. Are we handling the text correctly?

10. Role of Women in Ministry: Recommended Resources  Because I teach a seminary class that explores the role of women in ministry from a biblical perspective (looking especially at 1 Cor 11, 1 Cor 14 and 1 Tim 2), people often ask me what books I require.
