What are you Most Passionate About?

When you ask someone, "What are you most passionate about?" you get a myriad of responses.  Most people have no idea and are paralyzed in their response.  Some people think they know and they really don’t.  Some people answer because they think they’re supposed to know and they really don’t.  Others may have thought they knew then were disappointed by how their passions didn’t play

When you ask someone, "What are you most passionate about?" you get a myriad of responses.  Most people have no idea and are paralyzed in their response.  Some people think they know and they really don’t.  Some people answer because they think they’re supposed to know and they really don’t.  Others may have thought they knew then were disappointed by how their passions didn’t play out like they thought they would.  Then there are the rare few who actually know what they are passionate about AND get to live it out.  How would you answer the question?

As I read, study and process many life coaching tools, assessments,  talk to people, hear others’ life experiences as well as looking at Scripture what is consistent is that what you value drives your passion.  Many of our values are taught to us, whether from our heritage of family, heritage of faith or life experiences.  Sometimes our values are so ingrained in us that we don’t know where they came from and many times cannot even identify them for ourselves – they are so close to us.  At times what we think are our values are things that we wish we valued, but we really do not.  For example, if I say I value honesty, yet am not honest in most of my friendships, then do I really value it?  Values are lived out and values also drive that which we are most passionate about.

Next time someone asks you, "What are you most passionate about?" think about your values.  What is it that you value AND that you live out?  If you value something and don’t live it out either don’t call it a value or start living it out!  Go to the root of your heart and to the reality of your actions, asking the Holy Spirit to illumine that which is deep inside of you.  You might just find your answer there.
