FATHOM (a song/poem)*
“Can you fathom the mysteries of God? Can you probe the limits of the Almighty? They are higher than the heavens—what can you do? They are deeper than the depths of the grave— what can you know?” (Job 11:7-8, NIV).
“God is both further from us, and nearer to us, than any other being” (C.S. Lewis). [1]

[beyond]
“Yes, God is great – beyond our knowledge! The number of his years is unsearchable” (Job 36:26).
Only a whisper
of who God is has ever reached our ears. [2]
We fail to pursue Him, [3]
though if we did we would use up all our years. [4]
Yet the heavens bear witness; [5]
all creation declares that He should be revered. [6]
The Lord God Almighty.
Has He been so silent that men have ceased to fear? [7]
[sovereign]
“He does whatever he pleases in heaven and on earth, in the seas and all the ocean depths” (Psalm 135:6).
He alone is immortal; [8]
from everlasting to everlasting He is the same. [9]
And He has no equal; [10]
there is no other God. [11] He even swears by His own Name. [12]
His kingdom’s eternal. [13]
His decrees issue forth concerning seasons, times and men. [14]
And who dare oppose Him? [15]
Or tell me whom does He owe when ev’rything belongs to Him? [16]
[humbling]
“Do you have an arm as powerful as God’s, and can you thunder with a voice like his? Adorn yourself, then, with majesty and excellency, and clothe yourself with glory and honor! Scatter abroad the abundance of your anger. Look at every proud man and bring him low…. imprison them in the grave. Then I myself will acknowledge to you that your own right hand can save you” (Job 40:9-14).
So can we even question? [17]
Do I take my life in my hands if I approach to ask Him, “Why?” [18]
For even to glimpse Him—
if His glory was not hidden we would die. [19]
Oh, I hear His thunder;
His awesome, awe-full voice that speaks out of the storm. [20]
And when He searches me… [21]
Like Job I spoke once but now I will speak no more. [22]
“Can you fathom the mysteries of God? Can you probe the limits of the Almighty? They are higher than the heavens—what can you do? They are deeper than the depths of the grave— what can you know?” (Job 11:7-8, NIV).
