Apple – A Modern Day Model for Grace?

Today I had the privilege of dealing with the customer service department at Apple. I talked to a very nice young man named Jared. I explained to him that I noticed that I had received two ITunes charges to my bank account for $20 each and that I believed this to be mistake since neither my wife nor I had purchased anything more than a 99¢ game on my IPhone in the past few weeks.

Jared looked at the account and then asked me if I could look at my bank statement dating all the way back to April of this year. I looked and he asked me if I had two other charges for $30 and $10 and in fact I did. Jared then told me that he had bad news.
He told me that he believed my Credit Card information had been stolen and that whoever it was had opened another ITunes account and had been making purchases on it since April. My heart sunk and I felt violated!
HOWEVER, Jared then promptly told me something that I was not expecting. Jared told me that he had good news as well.
He told me that Apple would go ahead and refund the $80 of charges to me and remove the Credit Card info from their databanks as to protect me from future ITunes losses.
I was shocked!
Here’s the deal…Apple doesn’t owe me anything!
They didn’t make the mistake!
But here’s the bigger deal…they are paying the price for a mistake they didn’t make!
Does that sound like grace or what?
I’m taken back by Apples commitment to customer service. That is why they are flat out – the best!
I looked at this from the Christian Perspective and I have to tell you…yy experience with Apple (A completely “Secular” company) was one of the most “Grace-Filled” moments I’ve ever had. If Apple truly does business this way and they treat all or at least most of their customers the way they treated me today, then they really are a modern day model of grace. They should be blessed by God simply for their commitment to love one another.
The next time you have the opportunity to model grace in your conversations or dealings with other people (family, friends, or customers), think about how Jesus would do it. Apparently Apple does and they don’t even know it.
