Same Sex NT texts
This week's Table podcast is a look and assessment of NT same sex texts from the Queen James Bible. That name is right. The gay community published a Bible recently and argued for changes in 8 texts in the OT and NT. This week we look at the NT texts and take a look at what they did. Last week we looked at OT texts. Here is the link for this week: http://www.dts.edu/thetable/play/news-testament-view-same-sex-sexuality/ I hope you find the detailed discussion helpful and informative.

Is Thought Police in Our Democracy What We Really Want?
There is an unsettling process underway in our country that prides itself as a model of democracy. Even as we fight to uphold democracy in the Middle East and soldiers die for the rights attached to it, we operate against those principles by how we are legislating ourselves. Supposedly, we have freedom of speech and religion that allows for a range of views to be held in our culture. That practice is rapidly changing and going away, selectively. Look at some laws that have been passed or are under consideration in our country recently. If you bake a cake for weddings or sell flowers but will not do…

Tomorrow at DTS
Tomorrow at Dallas Theological Seminary (October 7-8) begins two days of focus on where evangelicalism is in the USA. The Hendricks Center is hosting a The Way Forward Reimaging Evangelicalism Conference all day on October 7. I hope those of you in the Dallas area can attend. Walk ups are welcome. John Dickerson is a young, award winning journalist and pastor in the Phoenix area who has written about where Evangelicalism needs to go as our culture shifts. He has done some good research on the topic. His book is enttitled, The Great Evangelical Recession, The: 6 Factors That Will Crash the American Church…and How to Prepare He carefully assesses…

The Hendricks Center has entered into a partnership with the Kern Family Foundation to discuss issues tied to faith, work and economics. Spousal Abuse
This week begins two weeks of discussion on the Table podcast on spousal abuse. Protestants rank at the top of the list for this area of marital tension. So we have two porfessional counselors examine a video on the topic and discuss its contents. It is a helpful examination of a topic often undiscussed in the church and often mishandled in it. Do check the link out. If you find it helpful, share it with others. http://www.dts.edu/thetable/play/christian-response-to-abusive-relationships/

Human Trafficking
This is a Table podcast I have been waiting for us to post. It is about human trafficking. It deals with three areas where this takes place and is a nice introduction to the issue. Do give it a listen and let us know what you think. Feel free to share the link with others. http://www.dts.edu/thetable/play/human-trafficking-what-every-christian-should-know/ We have three experts, Barry and Kim Jones, who have introduced working in this area to their church, and Matt Williams, who works for Exile International, an organization that deals with the ministry in Africa.

On Immigration, Amnesty and the Gospel
I want to let people know about the Table podcast for the next two weeks. It covers immigration. Here is the URL: http://www.dts.edu/thetable/play/biblical-response-immigration-policy/ We have purposely asked 4 Hispanic evangelicals to help us see the issues from their side of the conversation. It is too easy to get near-sighted about this conversation. I have heard a lot of discussion about not giving amnesty, upholding the rule of law, and that there are two kinds of immigration- legal and illegal. Much of this ignores what we all know. Where we are now does not work. It allows for an underground economy where people who get from the system do not pay into…

Reflecting on a Week’s Experience at Logos Software
Just spent two weesk in the Northwest. First observation: this is a beautiful part of the country. I was told to expect constant rain. I got one day of mist for a few hours and nothing but blue sky otherwise. The hills and volcanoes that dot the region are green and gorgeous. My second week was spent filming a class on issues tied to the Gospels and Acts, as well as two shorter pieces on dispensationalism and on the Use of the OT in the NT. These involved a series of 3-10 minute discussions of issues. It is much in the style I teach anyway except I could not move…

What Christians in Other Parts of the World Can Teach Us, Part 2
This week on the Table podcast is part 2 of my interview of Scott Cunningham about how seminary training is done around the world and what Christinas in other parts of the world can teach us about global engagement. Scott travels the world for the Overseas Council. He knows what is happening on several continents. So we asked him to discuss what he is seeing around the world and what other Christians can can teach us about engaging in places where the Christiain faith does not have large numbers. It is a fascinating look at how context impacts training and emphases. Here is the link. Let us know what you…
