Graduations and Tomorrows
Over the past three weekends, I have attended three different graduation ceremonies—seminary, college, and high school. I’ve rejoiced to see friends and family cross each stage and walk into a new tomorrow. The new journeys they face remind me of a piece I wrote a few years back. I share this with them and for each of us as we face our own tomorrows…the tomorrow that God has for each one of us. It’s an exciting journey!

Tomorrow
Tomorrow’s future stretches out before me
And I stand in awe that the God of the universe
So carefully maps out His plan for my life
His loving-kindness is evident as He gently leads and guides me
The journey is not always easy
Times of uncertainty and doubt
Bring clouds on the horizon that muddle my view of the road ahead
Even as I question the stillness of God’s hand in my life, He remains patient with me, His stubborn child
With fists clenched tight
I struggled to control my future days
Impatiently demanding that God answer my prayers in the way I thought best
Pleading and pouting, fighting against His perfect plan for my life
And one day, in His grace,
God slowly begins melting my stubborn heart
Teaching me again to trust Him and His goodness to me
As I wait for the future He has for me to unfold
The clouds have begun to lift
And I see God’s rainbow of promise once again
I realize that God is worth more to me than a thousand answers to my prayers
I am blessed because He is in my life
My life and my future remain uncertain
I still have questions about where God wants me
But God has calmed my heart with quiet assurance
He’s given me back the joy of trusting Him to show me the way
As I look ahead to the future, I have hope
God knows exactly what will take place and where I am going
God is in control of all my todays and tomorrows
I am truly blessed because God, my Father, will walk with me each step of the way
“For I know the plans I have for you says the Lord, plans to give you a future and a hope.” Jeremiah 29:11-13 NET
