IBR Jesus Group Feb 26

This blog will be brief. Day of Discovery is broadcasting a series on the IBR Jesus Group’s work on the historical Jesus. This is a decade long project involving several evangelical scholars. We filmed these shows last summer as we were wrapping up our work for publication later this year. It is eight shows, two of which are now up on the net for streaming broadcast.

    Synagogue
    Dr. Bock:

How many people would that synagogue in Capernaum (where you were filming) hold? I am trying to get an idea of how many people would have been in attendance during a typical Saturday service.

      Synagogue dlb

      Brett:

Good question. Remember the synagogue you are looking at is the state of the locale from about the 4th century AD.  My guess is that depending on how things are configured you might get 100-150 people in that entire space. The corner we occupied held 10 of us.

    Dr. Bock,
    Do you know if Day

    Dr. Bock,

Do you know if Day of Discovering is producing any kind of discussion guide to supplement this video series? If not, do you kow of any other works that start with the same starting point as the IBR project (i.e., that one can come to a right understanding of Christ without holding to the inspiration of Scripture) that could engage people in discussion…namely people who hold to the historicity of Jesus but not his divinity? Thanks to you and the IBR team’s work in this area.

    Day of Discovery IBR Series
I’ve watched the first three episodes and the second one at Caesarea Philippi is outstanding. I hope the entire series is eventually available for purchase.
