For a season I felt so alone, but God quickly led me back into a narrow pathway where I was encouraged by others who had escaped the boundaries and bondage of methodical idolatry – serving the local church. I was there 18 years.

The breaking away is exceedinly painful – as a divorce from a thousand treasured friends, or more. They do not understand – or even care about the absence of a sheep who served so well, as many are willing to fill in the gap. I was wounded, desperate for spiritual meat that would satisfy the starvation created by the busyness and business of serving serving serving the machine… God is faithful to feed those who hunger and thirst for Truth and righteousness and holiness and HIM. Always. With energetic pleas, the church cries, “Come to me, get in a group, lead a group, give your money, give your time, give your energy, give… give… give… serve on the Dream Team…” Yet Jesus speaks gently, “Come to me all who are weary and heavy laden, and I will give you rest.”

I prefer to endure the flames of persecution – the sacred cross that He bids me come and carry, than return to the barrenness of the whitewashed tomb.
