What Does The Bible SAY…..

By now, you may have heard the song, “What Does the Fox Say.”  Yes, the words were written about a fox and the sound that it makes, or doesn’t make.  According to the lyrics no one knows the sound of a fox and if you have watched the hilarious video, the vocalists make odd noises to portray the possible sounds of a fox.

Two Norwegian brothers put the lyrics to a catchy beat, dressed up in fox costumes, and made one of the funniest videos ever.  According to some sources this video has gained such popularity that they have over 360,000,000 people who have watched and laughed to their humor online.  Old MacDonald, move over, because the fox is moving to the farm. 

The surprise of it all is that the song has gained popularity in just a few months due to its odd, funny, unique, and totally off the wall video.  These two Norwegian brothers probably had no idea the amount of people who would be talking, sharing, and singing their song.  Our fifteen month old grandson even listens intently to the song when he hears the catchy tune played.  

Have you ever wondered if we were that passionate about the Bible would there be more people talking, sharing, and singing praises from God’s Word?

With sixty-six God inspired books, thousands of verses to share, and scores of Psalms to sing, why are our children not passionate about God’s Word?  According to George Barna in his book, “Transforming Children into Spiritual Champions,” fewer than 10 percent of parents who regularly attend church with their children also read the Bible together with them, pray together with them, or participate in an act of service as a family unit apart from the church.   He goes on to say that less than 1 out of 20 have any type of worship experience together with their kids outside of the church.  

So why are kids not passionate about God’s Word?  These are a few of my conclusions, but perhaps you have more.  

1. They have not been given the opportunity to know God.

2. They have not been influenced at home to read God’s Word.

3. They have not been taught the purpose of God’s Word.

4. They have not been encouraged to follow God’s Word.

5. They have not had models that demonstrate God’s Word.

6. They have not been given the opportunity to seek answers from God’s Word.

Family matters to God and investing time together in God’s word is vitally important to the spiritual foundation of children.  Families who invest time together in God’s Word will experience greater loyalty, stronger commitments, healthier relationships, responsibility, trust, and a love for God’s Word. One of my professors from Dallas Theological Seminary, the late Dr. Howard Hendricks, states in his book, “Heaven Help the Home Today…Successful Parenting in Challenging Times,” the church influences 3 to 6 percent of a child’s time, whereas, the home influences 50 to 60 percent of time.  

The Lord is the one who builds the home so allow Him to construct the walls and you (mom and dad)… then labor within those walls working to keep the foundation strong.  A strong foundation will keep the walls from blowing down, so invest time allowing God to build your Christian home, founded on Him and His Word.  “If the Lord does not build a house, then those who build it work in vain.”  Psalm 127:1

What does the Bible say…EVERYTHING!
