God’s Will

This has to be one of the most quoted Christian phrases that I hear. ( yea I know I keep saying this but there are so many over used phrases)

I am doing God's will

If it is God's will then all will be fine

God willing and the creek don't rise

You need to do God's will.

So what is God's will for us?

So what is God's will for us?

Roman's 12: says Do not be conformed  to this present world,  but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may test and approve  what is the will of God – what is good and well-pleasing and perfect.

Paul mentions a few things that he says is God's will for us.

1 Thess 4:3-5

4:3For this is God’s will: that you become holy, that you keep away from sexual immorality, 4:4 that each of you know how to possess his own body in holiness and honor, 4:5 not in lustful passion like the Gentiles who do not know God

1 Thess 5:16-18

5:16 Always rejoice, 5:17 constantly pray, 5:18 in everything give thanks. For this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.

So is that it?   Nope

Look deep inside yourself. What are your desires. Not the desires of the bigger house, bigger TV, better job.  Look deeper.  Ever wonder why when you see a homeless person you get that feeling inside?  Why when you see a widow struggle it bothers you? Ever wonder why you have a desire or the talent to fix things? The list can go on.

I truly believe we have the knowledge to know exactly what God wants from us. God planted the desires you have in your heart for a reason. He wants you to be drawn towards his will.  God tells us what he wants but sometimes it is that small little tug on our soul as he is trying to get our attention. BUT!! God's small little tug is sometimes out shadowed but the loud things we have around us.

Our culture is one of never rest. We cant drive to the supermarket without having the radio on, cant drive to Grandma's house with the kids without them asking to play the license plate game or asking to have a video put in so they can watch it.  Our teens and even ourselves are so engrossed in the new App on our phone,  we are too busy texting someone or we are so concerned about that conversation that we are having on facebook with that person we haven't seen since high school.

When do we allow God to talk to us?  Would you send someone on a mission, give them the things that they need, yet not tell them where they are going or how to use what you gave them?  Why would God do that then?  He gave us the desires to want to do things that are of his will. So when do we allow God to talk to us and tell us what he wants? Do you schedule quiet time for him? Reflect in his word and listen?

God has a wonder way of getting our attention. He opens and closes doors.  Are you the kind of person who bangs and bangs at the door that was closed praying and asking for it to be opened again? or do you allow God to redirect you with that closed door and go through the one around the corner that you didn't know was open because you were to busy banging on the one that was closed.

Through all of this I provided myself with a neat saying.

God can't move you in any direction if you are sitting on your butt.

So get up, brush off that closed door as much as it hurts and start moving so God can direct you towards his will. You never know the door around the corner may lead you to something beyond your wildest dreams. But God knew.

    God’s Will

    Michael,

Exactly!   "God can't move you in any direction if you are sitting on your butt."

Not only that, but God won't.  It's when we begin to step out in faith and rely on God for the next step, and the next step, etc., you begin to see His will.  "God, I'm stepping out and I can't see where my foot is going to land, but I am relying on You and trusting You."  God's will is for us to be obedient to Him, trust Him, and glorify Him.

    Thom.
