Shaping Abstract Truths To Form A Firm Foundation – #2- God’s Image In Mankind Became Distorted at the Fall

God has complete unity in HImself, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. He made humans to live in unity and community with Him. God planned from the beginning for Adam and Eve and all their descendants to walk and talk with Him daily. “ . . .  the man and hiswife heard the sound of the Lord God moving about in the orchard at the breezy time of the day. . .” Gen 3:8 _{The Net Bible}

Imagine that for a moment, as you are going about your daily business when suddenly you hear the sound of Creator God moving about. He is with you, there to visit with you in person, face to face. What an amazing time this was for mankind.Sadly it didn’t last very long.

Humans come complete with a mind, will, and emotion. These are used by our distinct personalities to express ourselves both with other humans and with God. He gave Adam and Eve only one command. He also told them consequences that would happen if they didn’t obey. They had a choice, to trust God and obey or do what they decided was best.

Satan disguised himself as a wise beautiful creature. He spoke to them using God’s own words but added just one word of his own. It changed the truth to a lie.  Theybased their decision to act on what Satan said instead of trusting God. They disobeyed God and when they did they received the very consequences that God said would happen. They experienced death and separation from God. The spirit God had placed inside of them died and they could no longer live in unity with God. Mankind suddenly believed that God was their enemy and each new human born is born as an enemy of God.

Mankind was changed forever. Romans 5:12  So then, just as sin entered the world through one man and death through sin, and so death spread to all people because all sinned—_{The Net Bible}

We lost the ability to have community with God. Perhaps this diagram to the left will bestsymbolize how mankind looked after the fall.   Fallen, no longer upright in our standing with God and without our spirit to speak with God who is Spirit.

The light of goodness that God breathed into us was extinguished by the darkness of sin. God is light. God is good. There is not even a shadow in His person. James 1:17b “ . . .the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or the slightest hint of change.” _{The Net Bible}

 The human heart is no longer drawn to Him. His very goodness which is overwhelmingly opposite of the darkness dwelling in the core of our being repells us so much that we head off in another direction.

Romans 3:10-12 “just as it is written: “There is no one righteous, not even one, there is no one who understands, there is no one who seeks God. All have turned away, together they have become worthless; there is no one who shows kindness, not even one.”_{The Net Bible}
