The Beautiful Attitudes – Part III: Blessed are the Meek

“Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the earth. (Matthew 5:5 NET) The Greek word for blessed (i.e., makarios) means being fortunate, prosperous, or successful. That is, successful are those who are meek! Why? What is it to be meek? First of all, to be MEEK does NOT mean to be WEAK! Instead, meekness is strength under control. Picture a  feral horse (i.e., a Mustang)  that expends its great strength by running the fields yet accomplishes little to nothing in the way of work. I really hadn’t thought of this prayer for many years, but as I look back now in this time in history, I see that God has been answering it.  The polarization in the United States calls us to see everyone as either…

    Gentle and Quiet . . . Whaaaaa???

A lot of women, women like me, have come to a full stop when reading in 1 Peter 3:3-4, where he challenges us: “Your beauty should not consist of outward things like elaborate hairstyles and the wearing of gold ornaments or fine clothes. Instead, it should consist of what is inside the heart with the imperishable quality of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is very valuable in God’s eyes.” A gentle and quiet spirit? Uh-oh. Some of us have thought, “Oh man. I’m sunk. Is that what it means to be a godly woman? Gentle and quiet?” Others have wondered, “But God! You made me with a big, loud…
