Unanswered Prayers—When Your Desires Go Unmet

    September 23, 2015 / 1 Comment

What happens to you when you pray and the many requests you have shared with God go unanswered? How do you approach God when your desires go unmet? How do you respond to God when nothing happens and you’ve prayed, prayed and prayed some more?    I don’t know about you, but oftentimes I feel deflated and frustrated with God when my requests go answered. Hope turns to hopelessness. The confidence I once had— the great expectation I shared with God— morphs into a total disappointment and my faith hangs by a thread.   Do I truly believe God is good when my prayer request go unanswered? Do I truly…

    Time Savers, Life Takers

September 15, 2015 / Comments Off on Time Savers, Life Takers

Leadership is broken because leaders are unbroken You have the watch, we have the time –African proverb Well, Apple has the watch anyway! Mac has taken a bite out of the apple with its heart measuring, health monitoring, run pacing—and, oh yeah, time telling—watch. There’s a whole new world of time savers available in any language from IOS to Android to Windows.  And there’s all those other tech time savers like DVRs, online banking, texting, caller ID, and navigational tools, Yes, and Evernote and Dropbox too, both of which have cost me more time trying to figure out how to use than they ever saved me. That’s my problem, I’m…

The Lord’s Prayer: The Outline for Prayer Given to Us by Jesus

February 2, 2015 / Comments Off on The Lord’s Prayer: The Outline for Prayer Given to Us by Jesus

In response to the Apostles’ request to be taught how to pray (Luke 11:1,) Jesus gave them what has become known as the Lord’s Prayer when in reality it could be called the Disciples’ Prayer since it was given to them and us (Matthew 6:9-13. Luke 11:2-4). Some think it is a prayer we are supposed to religiously recite word for word. Some even treat the Lord’s Prayer as a mantra that will ensure God blesses us. However, realize God is far more interested in our hearts when we pray than He is in just our words (Matthew 6:6,7. Matthew 15:8. Philippians 4:6,7). I believe the Lord’s Prayer should be understood…

4 Reasons to Re-Evaluate Your Scheduled Devotion Time

August 11, 2014 / Comments Off on 4 Reasons to Re-Evaluate Your Scheduled Devotion Time

I vividly remember one of my childhood Sunday School teachers talking to my class about our time spent with God. “When is the best time of day to do your devotions?” she asked. After quickly raising my hand, I replied, “Whatever time works best for you.” “No, that is not correct,” she said. “The best time is the morning. You should start your day with God.” While I agree that we should make spending time with God a priority, I’ve never thought that meant we all had to get up earlier in the morning.  And actually, my grumpy-morning-zombie-self usually better exhibits the fruit of the spirit throughout the day when…
