Joyful Joyful
Since I joined FB a few months ago, my prophecies have become self-fulfilling. I HAVE spent a lot of time getting reacquainted with old classmates, childhood friends, and summer camp pals. FB has enabled me to spread the word about my new book, articles I’ve written, and general ministry happenings in my life. I’ve also had a little too much fun exchanging quips, jokes, and “LOL” with current buddies whom I see weekly or better.

It’s Tough Being a Woman
I recently joined a new Beth Moore Bible study on the book of Esther. She titles the series Esther: It’s Tough Being a Woman. The introductory lecture was full of hilarious references to hormones as well as significant thoughts on women’s emotional and social struggles. One line stuck with me. “It’s tough being a woman, and many times our problem is other women.”

Word Girl
Thanksgiving afternoon, my head swiveled back and forth as I tried to follow the animated conversation between my brother and cousins—whose involvement in each others’ lives really surprised me (they were unusually “thick” with each other). The potential for family connections lifted the “pro” column over the “cons,” and the next day I joined. Of course the first three…

Reformation Day
Halloween—Love it? Hate it? Most Christians lean one way or another. Those who remain ambivalent do so with an uneasy spirit. Don’t want to promote evil; don’t want to ruin the kids’ fun. I suggest we bestow on the day a greater significance than its long-time identity as the Eve of All Saints. For it was on this day in 1517 that Dr. Martin Luther chose to post his 95 theses to the church door in Wittenberg. It is hard to overestimate the consequences of this document. It set in motion a conflict that reshaped the history of western civilization.

Protecting One Another
In a previous blog we talked about the benefits of growing up with a biological brother and how this experience can prepare you to work with men in ministry. Here is the first benefit.

Yo, Bro!
I have several brothers. My older one is close in age. I remember when he got old enough to think girls were pretty cool, not to mention just pretty. After a couple of years, the girls started thinking he was kind of cute, too. His dating life took off, and before I knew it, he had a steady girlfriend. Eeuww, gross! I remember thinking. What does she see in him? How can she stand to even kiss him? Ick!

Jesus: A Family Man
We’re continuing our discussion of mixed ministry—when men and women serve together. Let’s focus today on what the Bible says about it.
