Sex Sans Sin (SSS)

Realize our adversary, Satan, aggressively markets the opposite of the truth and nearly infinite shades of gray as counterfeits.

But even if our gospel is veiled, it is veiled only to those who are perishing, among whom the god of this age has blinded the minds of those who do not believe so they would not see the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God. (2 Corinthians 4:3–4 NET)
And no wonder, for even Satan disguises himself as an angel of light. (2 Corinthians 11:14 NET)

For the topic of sex this can range from sex is bad, dirty and should not be enjoyed but merely endured for the sake of procreation to unrestrained sex with the same or opposite gender adults, children, and animals, etc. So, how do we distinguish between what is the truth about sex and what is a shade of gray?

Federal agents don’t learn to spot counterfeit money by studying the counterfeits. They study genuine bills until they master the look of the real thing. Then when they see bogus money they recognize it.

John F. MacAthur (3)

This means we can learn to recognize an opposite or a counterfeit by training ourselves to master what God has said in the Bible about any subject.  Consequently, you will recognize opposite or counterfeit truths when the World offers them to you.

Realize, that the difference between what the WORD of God says and what the WORLD says is that one or more of Satan’s lies are added to the WORD (John 8:44). That is, Satan uses the TRUTH like a fisherman uses bait to attract us to sin. However, the TRUTH is always mixed with a LIE, and that LIE is what makes his hook!

Remember, WORD + Lie = WORLD.

What does the Bible say about sex?

Sex is a reward created by God and gifted to married people for their mutual enjoyment.

Enjoy life with your beloved wife during all the days of your fleeting life that God has given you on earth during all your fleeting days; for that is your reward in life and in your burdensome work on earth. (Ecclesiastes 9:9 NET)
May your fountain be blessed, and may you rejoice in your young wife–  a loving doe, a graceful deer; may her breasts satisfy you at all times, may you be captivated by her love always.  (Proverbs 5:18-19 NET)

God designed sex as part of the relationship of marriage.

A husband should give to his wife her sexual rights, and likewise a wife to her husband.  It is not the wife who has the rights to her own body, but the husband. In the same way, it is not the husband who has the rights to his own body, but the wife.  Do not deprive each other, except by mutual agreement for a specified time, so that you may devote yourselves to prayer. Then resume your relationship, so that Satan may not tempt you because of your lack of self-control. (1 Corinthians 7:3-5 NET)

Sex within marriage is to be Christ-honoring. That is, we are not to require our mate to perform any sexual act that they are uncomfortable with, is a sin, or simply does not portray the way Jesus the groom and future husband would treat His bride and future wife the Church (Revelations (21:9).

For this is God's will: that you become holy, that you keep away from sexual immorality, that each of you know how to possess his own body in holiness and honor,  not in lustful passion like the Gentiles who do not know God.  (1 Thessalonians 4:3-5 NET)
Marriage must be honored among all and the marriage bed kept undefiled, for God will judge sexually immoral people and adulterers. (Hebrews 13:4 NET)
always giving thanks to God the Father for each other in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ,  and submitting to one another out of reverence for Christ. Wives, submit to your husbands as to the Lord, because the husband is the head of the wife as also Christ is the head of the church– he himself being the savior of the body. But as the church submits to Christ, so also wives should submit to their husbands in everything. Husbands, love your wives just as Christ loved the church and gave himself for her to sanctify her by cleansing her with the washing of the water by the word, so that he may present the church to himself as glorious– not having a stain or wrinkle, or any such blemish, but holy and blameless. In the same way husbands ought to love their wives as their own bodies. He who loves his wife loves himself. For no one has ever hated his own body but he feeds it and takes care of it, just as Christ also does the church, for we are members of his body. For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and will be joined to his wife, and the two will become one flesh. This mystery is great– but I am actually speaking with reference to Christ and the church. Nevertheless, each one of you must also love his own wife as he loves himself, and the wife must respect her husband. (Ephesians 5:20-33 NET)
Let us rejoice and exult and give him glory, because the wedding celebration of the Lamb has come, and his bride has made herself ready. She was permitted to be dressed in bright, clean, fine linen" (for the fine linen is the righteous deeds of the saints). (Revelation 19:7-8 NET)
Husbands, in the same way, treat your wives with consideration as the weaker partners and show them honor as fellow heirs of the grace of life. In this way nothing will hinder your prayers. (1 Peter 3:7 NET)
Instead of being motivated by selfish ambition or vanity, each of you should, in humility, be moved to treat one another as more important than yourself. Each of you should be concerned not only about your own interests, but about the interests of others as well. (Philippians 2:3-4 NET)
Husbands, love your wives and do not be embittered against them. (Colossians 3:19 NET)
What does the Bible say about marriage?

God ordained marriage in the Creation to be a covenantal union between a human male and a female who are both believers and is to be dissolved only by death.

He answered, "Have you not read that from the beginning the Creator made them male and female, and said, 'For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and will be united with his wife, and the two will become one flesh'? So they are no longer two, but one flesh. Therefore what God has joined together, let no one separate." (Matthew 19:4-6 NET)

From the verse above, it is established that God created only two types of humans: male and female.

Do not become partners with those who do not believe, for what partnership is there between righteousness and lawlessness, or what fellowship does light have with darkness? (2 Corinthians 6:14 NET) (1 Corinthians 7:15)
For a married woman is bound by law to her husband as long as he lives, but if her husband dies, she is released from the law of the marriage. (Romans 7:2 NET)

When God made the first man Adam, He saw that being without a companion was not good for him.

The LORD God said, "It is not good for the man to be alone. I will make a companion for him who corresponds to him." (Genesis 2:18 NET)

However, no animal was worthy to be called the companion, helpmate, or wife of the man.

The LORD God formed out of the ground every living animal of the field and every bird of the air. He brought them to the man to see what he would name them, and whatever the man called each living creature, that was its name. So the man named all the animals, the birds of the air, and the living creatures of the field, but for Adam no companion who corresponded to him was found. (Genesis 2:19,20 NET)

Therefore, God put the first man, Adam, to sleep and, from his side, took cells and made from them a woman, and they became united as husband and wife.

So the LORD God caused the man to fall into a deep sleep, and while he was asleep, he took part of the man's side and closed up the place with flesh. Then the LORD God made a woman from the part he had taken out of the man, and he brought her to the man.  Then the man said, "This one at last is bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh; this one will be called 'woman,' for she was taken out of man." That is why a man leaves his father and mother and unites with his wife, and they become a new family. The man and his wife were both naked, but they were not ashamed. (Genesis 2:20-25 NET)

From Adam, God made one race, the human race, composed of many nations with many skin colors.

From one man he made every nation of the human race to inhabit the entire earth, determining their set times and the fixed limits of the places where they would live, so that they would search for God and perhaps grope around for him and find him, though he is not far from each one of us. (Acts 17:26–27 NET)
Forbidden Sex of the Bible

Adultery (1) – a married person fantasizing (1) about (i.e., coveting (1)) sex or having sex with someone who is not their spouse.

You shall not commit adultery. (Exodus 20:14 NET)
I say to you that whoever looks at a woman to desire her has already committed adultery with her in his heart. (Matthew 5:28 NET)

Sexual Immorality (fornication) – all other Biblically forbidden sex (Acts 15:20).

Now the works of the flesh are obvious: sexual immorality, impurity, depravity, idolatry, sorcery, hostilities, strife, jealousy, outbursts of anger, selfish rivalries, dissensions, factions, envying, murder, drunkenness, carousing, and similar things. I am warning you, as I had warned you before: Those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God! (Galatians 5:19-21 NET)

This includes:

Homosexual sex – fantasizing about or having sex with someone of the same sex (1). (Romans 1:26,27. Leviticus 18:22. 1 Timothy 1:8-10)

Purchased sex – fantasizing about or having sex with a prostitute (1 Corinthians 6:15-17. Deuteronomy 23:17,18)

Incestual sex – fantasizing about or having sex with close relatives (Leviticus 18:6. 1 Corinthians 5:1. Deuteronomy 27:20)

Bestiality – fantasizing about or having sex with animals (Leviticus 18:23)

Conclusion:

The truth about sex is that it is only allowed to be enjoyed in marriage, and marriage is only between a human male and a female. Furthermore, sex must be done in a way that honors Christ Jesus our Lord, which includes honoring your spouse.

Flee sexual immorality! "Every sin a person commits is outside of the body"– but the immoral person sins against his own body. Or do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and you are not your own? For you were bought at a price. Therefore glorify God with your body.  (1 Corinthians 6:18-20 NET)
Do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived! The sexually immoral, idolaters, adulterers, passive homosexual partners, practicing homosexuals,  thieves, the greedy, drunkards, the verbally abusive, and swindlers will not inherit the kingdom of God.  (1 Corinthians 6:9-10 NET)
For this is God's will: that you become holy, that you keep away from sexual immorality, (1 Thessalonians 4:3 NET) (2)
But among you there must not be either sexual immorality, impurity of any kind, or greed, as these are not fitting for the saints. (Ephesians 5:3 NET)
Marriage must be honored among all and the marriage bed kept undefiled, for God will judge sexually immoral people and adulterers. (Hebrews 13:4 NET)

Hal has taught the Bible for over three decades. Through an interdenominational ministry dedicated to helping the local church build men for Jesus, Hal trained men, the leaders of men’s ministries, and provided pulpit supply. Before that, he was a Men’s Ministry Leader and an Adult Bible Fellowship teacher of a seventy-five-member class at a denominational megachurch. Presently, Hal desires to honor Jesus Christ through this Internet teaching ministry, thereby glorifying the Heavenly Father in the power and presence of the Holy Spirit. He believes, second to cultivating his relationship with God that raising his family unto the Lord is the most significant task for him while on Earth. Furthermore, Hal believes that being a successful leader in the church or workplace is no substitute for failing to be a successful leader at home.
